DIN EN 1.4305 Stainless Steel X8CrNiS18-9 Material
DIN EN 1.4305 stainless steel (X8CrNiS18-9 material) is an European standard austenitic corrosion resisting material with sulfur added to improve cutting performance, but its corrosion resistance is limited in acid and chloride media, when used in these media, pitting or cavity corrosion can occur. X8CrNiS18-9 steel forms short chips during cutting and is therefore particularly suitable for machining. Due to material properties, this stainless steel is also known as free-cutting steel.
Compared to 1.4301 material, DIN 1.4305 V2A has a higher sulfur content and contains 1.0% copper.

Harden
1.4305 stainless steel can’t be hardened.
Machinability
The addition of sulfur will cause chip breaking during the cutting process, making 1.4305 material particularly suitable for machining. However, sufficient cooling must be ensured during processing to avoid overheating.
Welding
Since 1.4305 stainless steel contains 0,15-0,35% sulfur, it has poor weldability and can cause thermal cracking during welding, but friction welding is an exception. If welding cannot be avoided, electrodes of 1.4462 or 1.4370 are recommended.
Corrosion Resistance
Due to the addition of sulfur, 1.4305 stainless steel is not resistant to intergranular corrosion. When used in acid and chloride media, pitting or cavity corrosion will occur.
Use and Application
Turned parts of the food and dairy industry, photo industry, paint, oil, soap, paper and textile industry
