7Cr17MoV Stainless Steel

7Cr17MoV steel is a Chinese GB standard Martensitic stainless steel grade produced by adding a small amount of molybdenum (Mo) and vanadium (V) to 7Cr17 to improve hardness and wear resistance. Similar international steel grades are US AISI 440A and Japanese SUS 440A. Mainly used for making high-hardness, high-wearing medium and high-grade knife and scissors products and medical equipment.

The steel grade is widely used in knife and scissors products, including the internationally renowned brand VICTORINOX Swiss Army Knife.

Chemical Composition

7Cr17MoV steel composition is given in the following table.

Chemical Composition (%)
Steel GradeCSi (≤)Mn (≤)P (≤)S (≤)CrMo (≤)Ni (≤)V
7Cr17MoV0.60-0.751.001.000.040.0316.00-18.500.750.600.10-0.20

Hardness

7Cr17MoV steel hardness is above 60 HRC (when quenching temperature at 1070 °C).

Heat Treatment

7Cr17MoV stainless steel can be quenched at 1070 °C to obtain the highest hardness value, and the Rockwell hardness can reach above 60.0 HRC. Tempering temperature should be 160-180℃

Due to the high content of the steel alloy elements, the heating and holding time of 7Cr17MoV should be longer than that of 3Cr13 steel, and the heating process can be selected as 4.0min/mm. 7Cr17MoV stainless steel also has better tempering stability than 3Cr13 and is similar to 5Cr15MoV steel.

Equivalent Grade

7Cr17MoV is similar to AISI 440A and Japanese SUS 440A.
